Comfort and Access
A safe and healthy river open space must be useful, accessible and comfortable for all ages and abilities. Periodically along the river areas for shelter, river crossings, wayfinding and interpretation should be provided. Considerations for comfort include making safe connections with neighborhoods and aligning entries to the river with public transit stops, 26% of LA Metro’s stops are a mile or less to the Los Angeles River.1 Along the river itself places for seating, rest and refreshment should be provided. From a park planning perspective entries to and from the river should be at least every quarter mile, crossings every half mile and amenity areas no further than a mile apart.
