River Mile Markers
A set of geo-referenced ‘mile-markers’ have been developed in order to allow clear and accurate definitions of locations to be shared among different groups working on the River. As indicated [ref figure below] River Mile zero is defined to be at the mouth in Long Beach, and River Mile 51 is at the ‘start’ of the River at the confluence of Bell Creek and Arroyo Calabasas. GIS shapefiles and Google Earth kmz files are available in increments of 1.0, 0.1, and 0.01 miles. These mile-markers will provide a common back-bone along which River improvements can be designed, and will also provide an overall common identity to the 51-miles of the River.
