Thirty percent of the Metro’s train stops are within 1 mile of the LA River. A core tenant of LA Metro’s master plan is the First Last Mile Strategic Plan. The prime goal of the plan is to increase accessibility to Metro stops. The plan actually considers all bike improvements within 3 miles of a station to have a functional relationship.
Placing awareness of the LA River, and its mobility opportunity in LA Metro’s planning guidelines would be an easy way to begin coordinated planning. Understanding Metro’s short, medium, and long term planning is important when considering improvements along the LA River, as it could offer alternative transportation to river access for greatest number of people.
Eco-Rapid is likely to be the next large scale mass transit project, and could offer huge opportunities to the southern cities.
