The next likely new mass transit line in the southland is Eco-Rapid, running through the heart of the lower LA River cities. While several alignments are under consideration, the light rail line will be accessible to the river adjacent cities of Vernon, Maywood, Huntington Park, Bell, Cudahy, South Gate, Downey, and Paramount.

The planning and implementation of this project offers a huge opportunity for mass transit connectivity within the southern cities, and to points along the LA River. If planned and developed with a green corridor and bike/pedestrian path, it could be a great opportunity for providing additional open space, as well as providing connections to the LA River from local communities.

Initial studies show a potential for up to 75,000 daily boardings, meaning the density to support the mass transit system already exists. This presents a unique opportunity for transit oriented development around the stations to include more open space elements, rather than having to focus on increased density to support the mass transit system. This idea is already part of the early planning concepts for the system.
